TexasHSFootball Week Two Teams of the Week
After a weekend that saw long losing streaks snapped and several marquee matchups across the state, here is a look at our week two teams of the week. Scroll down to the bottom of the article to vote for who you think should be our Team of the Week!
6A: Northbrook Raiders
The longest active losing streak in Texas is no more.
Northbrook hadn’t won a varsity football game since November 3, 2017 heading into its week two showdown against Aldine.
However, behind three rushing touchdowns from Marquell Hannah and another 69 yards and a touchdown on the ground by sophomore Kaiden Green, the Raiders were able to knock off Aldine 27-14, snapping their 42-game losing streak.
It was certainly a meaningful victory for all involved.
Shoutout @Gomezican @CoachKarre24 @CoachReese56 @DavidAKuti1 @CoachRomero9 @Coach_Howard06 and the rest of RAIDER NATION!!!You all made this happen for us throughout your hard work, dedication, and determination. 5A: Argyle Eagles
Argyle made the move up to 5A this year and wasted no time asserting itself in its new classification.
Facing #2 Lovejoy, the Eagle offense shined for much of the game in an explosive shootout. Senior running back Landon Farris had 233 yards and a score on the ground for Argyle, while fellow senior RJ Bunnell was just as effective with 193 yards and four rushing touchdowns.
But at the end of the game, it was the Eagle defense that got the final say. With Lovejoy facing one last play at the Argyle three-yard line down 56-49, the Argyle defense rose to the occasion, stuffing Lovejoy running back Matthew Mainord for no gain to preserve the victory.
With the win, the Eagles demonstrated that even after moving up a classification, they’ll still be a title contender when the playoffs roll around.

4A: Anna Coyotes
Down by five at its own 14-yard line with just seconds left, Anna needed a miracle.
Desperate, the Coyotes turned to their bag of tricks, calling a hook-and-ladder on the final play of the game.
They executed it to perfection.
Anna quarterback Evan Bullock delivered a strike to Cameron Augurson who quickly flipped it to the onrushing Jacob Emmers.
And from there, Emmers was gone.
Slicing through the Aubrey defense while evading tacklers, he raced 80 yards to secure Anna an unbelievable 39-34 victory in the finish of the weekend.

3A: Woodville Eagles
Woodville was a 19-point underdog heading into its showdown against #5 Newton on Friday.
Woodville running back Jatavian Taylor didn’t seem to get the memo.
He broke a 98-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, added a two-yard score in the second, and caught a 13-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter that served as the go-ahead score following a successful two-point conversion.
He finished with 92 yards rushing and 32 yards receiving as Woodville held Newton off late in the fourth quarter to secure a notable 23-22 victory over a state-ranked Newton team.
2A: Boys Ranch Roughriders
Boys Ranch was in the midst of a five-year winless streak this time last year.
Not this year.
Quarterback Isaiah Brown led the way on Friday with a big game against Amarillo Highland Park. He threw for 145 yards and two touchdowns and added another 176 yards on the ground as the Roughriders edged Highland Park 34-33.
With both of its wins coming on the road last year, this win was especially meaningful. It was Boys Ranch’s first home win since September 16, 2016.
Final score! The Roughriders are 2-0 and played a great game against Highland Park tonight. Our first home win in five years. 🏈💙💛 #BoysRanchPride pic.twitter.com/xW2gYaRBbw

1A: Jayton Jaybirds
#4 Jayton and #6 Klondike squared off in a massive 1A Division II matchup on Friday.
The ending did not disappoint.
In triple overtime down 48-42, Klondike had one last chance to keep the game alive. Cougar running back Jared Quintanilla decided to take off for the end zone himself. However, as he approached the goal line, he was met by Jayton defenders Jayce Rivera and Justin Collins.
Collins and Rivera combined to keep him out of the end zone by just inches, preserving a thrilling 48-42 victory for Jayton in a heavyweight six-man matchup.
Look at this incredible finish!
