Frisco Reedy came into Friday’s game with Frisco Wakeland in an unfamiliar position, district favorites.  They are ranked #8 in all of 5AAfter beating Frisco Lone Star last week, the Lions are the team to beat in District 6-5A-D1, but it wasn’t easy, as they needed a huge play late from star receiver and Texas Tech commit Kaleb Smith to pull it out.

Reedy got out to a fast start, getting two stops, and scoring two touchdowns in the first quarter.  Reedy quarterback Caleb Deal hit Connor McGrath on a 64-yard touchdown, and running back Dennis Moody had an 8-yard TD run.

Wakeland got on the board in the second, as Brennan Myer hit Ashdyn Kahouch on a six-yard touchdown pass.  Reedy scored on another Moody touchdown run, and took a 24-9 lead into halftime with full control of the game.

Wakeland came out fired up in the second half.  The Wolverines got back-to-back stops, and scored two touchdowns to cut the Reedy lead to 24-23.  Cooper Snyder scored on an 4-yard run, and Myer hit Hayden O’Neal on a 17-yard touchdown pass.

The Fourth quarter had plenty of highlights.  Wakeland scored twice, with TD passes from Myer to Kahouch and SMU commit Tripp Riordan.  The Wolverines had a 37-34 lead with 4:49 left in the game.

After a huge stop, all Wakeland had to do was run out the clock.  A first down would have ended the game as Reedy was out of time-outs, but the Wolverines weren’t able to do it and were forced to punt with 1:30 left.

Reedy coach Chad Cole put his most dynamic playmaker back to field the punt and it worked out.  Smith fielded the punt at his own 12, weaved through eleven Wolverines, and took it back 88 yards for the game-winning touchdown.

Reedy (4-0, 2-0) is now in full control of the district.  They’ll look to move to 5-0 against Frisco Liberty next week.  Wakeland (1-3, 0-2) won’t find the sledding any easier, as they take on perennial power Lone Star.
