4A Team of the Week: Canyon West Plains
New 4A program Canyon West Plains faced another tough battle in its inaugural football season on Thursday night.
The Wolves entered Thursday’s contest against 5A Division II side Amarillo Palo Duro as 29-point underdogs.
Once the game got underway, freshman quarterback Reid Macon delivered for West Plains, throwing for 271 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Jordi Hernandez also had a big night with 100 rushing yards on 24 carries, 65 receiving yards on four receptions, and two total touchdowns.
Heading into the fourth quarter, the Wolves held onto a narrow 28-26 advantage, but their defense denied Palo Duro on fourth down with 90 seconds remaining in the game to secure their first win in school history.
