5A Team of the Week: PSJA North Raiders
It was a packed house on Thursday in the Rio Grande Valley as unbeaten sides PSJA North and Edinburg Vela faced off in a crucial District 15-5A Division I contest.

Behind an impressive performance by their offensive line, PSJA North running back Jason Montes and quarterback Alejandro Aparicio
each had big games on the ground. Montes finished with 82 yards and a touchdown, while Aparicio had 58 yards and two scores. Freshmen Ethan Guerra also pitched in with 81 yards on 14 carries.
The Raider defense also came up big, limiting Vela to just 194 yards of offense.
Late in the game, after Vela recovered an onside kick with under two minutes to go, the Raider defense made yet another big stop, ensuring a 28-21 victory that gives PSJA North a crucial edge in the race for a district title.
The Raiders’ next district test will be in a week and a half as they travel to La Joya Palmview on Oct. 7.
