Lubbock High Edges Lakeview
On Friday night, Lubbock vs. Lakeview was a shot-for-shot game, with both teams scoring on almost every drive. With very few defensive stops from both teams, if you like offensive games, this was the one to be at this past Friday night.
Lubbock High Westerners
Quarterback Zachary Reyna led his team in this tooth-and-nail game. Reyna completed 12 of 20 passes for 145 yards, rushed for 24 yards, and scored himself a touchdown. Reyna connected with Trini Tijerina, who caught four passes for 58 yards and a touchdown. Reyna also connected with Ethan Torrez, who caught three passes for 49 yards, Derek Torrez, who caught two passes for 41 yards, and Joshua Coleman, who caught three passes for 31 yards.
The Westerners would find the ground game the most effective, as Zeph Barela rushed for 206 yards on 15 touches, getting himself two touchdowns. Three other running backs, Keagan Davis, Derek Torrez, and Trini Tijerina, could also get themselves a touchdown. Davis had 19 yards on five touches, Torrez had one rush for 1 yard, and Tijerina would rush for 54 yards on nine touches. This ended the scoring for the Westerners. The defense got a few stops, allowing their offense to drive in the final minutes. After scoring the last touchdown, the Westerners were able to win the game on a two-point conversion.
Lake View Chiefs
The Chiefs came into this game hoping to bounce back after two straight losses. Junior Quarterback Auston Perez would go 15 for 20, throwing for 281 yards and five touchdowns. Senior Quarterback Jalen Chavez completed 4 of 7 passes, throwing for 50 yards and rushing for 21 yards. Perez connected with Michael Duran through the air seven times for 211 yards for three touchdowns.
Braeden Packard would catch 3 passes for 66 yards frothree Perez and Chavez. Packard also got himself three touchdowns on the night. Perez would end his night connecting with Wyatt Henry 6 times for 55 yards, which ended the air raid threat. The Chiefs had a difficult time getting the ground game going, as Ian Cortez only rushed for 40 yards on 17 touches, and couldn’t find the endzone.
Adrian Flores rushed for 30 yards on one lone touch. The Chiefs’ defense kept their team in the game until the fourth quarter when Lubbock High scored a rushing touchdown to jump in front for good.
Lubbock High would win the back-and-forth game 43-41.
Lubbock High defends their home turf next week against a 2-2 Andrews Mustang team, who is looking to bounce back after losing to Seminole 34-26. Lake View will also defend their home turf next week as they host a 1-3 Levelland Lobos team looking to rebound from a 62-9 loss to Estacado.
