Estacado Blows by Levelland
Estacado started the season 4-0, their best start since 2019, and looked to continue their dominance Friday night against Levelland. Estacado was led by Quarterback DJ Johnson, who completed 12 16 passes for 176 yards and threw for two touchdowns. Johnson also had a 62-yard touchdown run.
Johnson connected with Wide Receivers Devoryea Boyd and William Blaylock II, each of whom had a touchdown. Boyd caught three passes for 36 yards, and Blaylock II had 1lone catch for 6 yards. Estacado Receiver Cedric Ross also caught five passes for 71 yards, and Christopher Woodruff caught one pass for 39 yards. This ended the Estacado air threat.
The Estacado defense made Levelland work for their points, as Nate Orta and Kei’sean Harris combined for 17 tackles, leading the defense. Jamar Shaw and Z’ryan Robinson would also contribute by combining for two sacks. These four helped the Estacado defense keep Levelland to only 9 points the entire game.
The Levelland defense started hot as they got a safety and jumped out to a 2-0 lead. But that lead was short-lived, as they had no answer for the Estacado offense. The Levelland offense also gave no signs of life, scoring only one touchdown. Rusty Johnson scored that lone touchdown on a 2-yard run, which ended the Levelland scoring for the game.
Estacado ended up winning easily 62-9.
Estacado defends their home turf next week against West Plains Amarillo, who is coming off a 14-7 win against Palo Duro. Levelland will travel to Lake View, who is 1-3 and looking to bounce back after a nail-biting loss to Lubbock High.
