Lubbock Falls to Andrews: Game Recap
On Friday night, the Lubbock High Westerners looked to add another win to their record as they took on the Andrews Mustangs. The Mustangs were looking to bounce back after a loss to Seminole
Lubbock Westerners
Freshmen Quarterback Dallas Trevino got the start Friday completing 14 passes on 28 attempts, throwing for 173 yards and 1 touchdown. Trevino spread the ball around as he connected with multiple receivers on the night. Trini Tijerina and Derek Torrez were Trevino’s main targets for the night, each catching 4 passes. Torrez totaled 33 yards, and Tijerina ended with 72 yards and a touchdown. Other receivers included Joshua Coleman, who had 2 catches for 24 yards, Da’Zaun Jones, who had 2 catches for 18 yards, and Zeph Barela, who had 1 lone catch for 28 yards.
The rushing game proved to be a little more effective for Lubbock High as Da’Zaun Jones rushed for 127 on 14 touches, racking up 2 touchdowns for himself. Zeph Barela rushed for 50 yards on 4 touches, but couldn’t find himself in the endzone. The Westerners defense made a few key stops late in the game, but did not have an answer for the Mustangs offense, who racked up 523 total yards.
Andrews Mustangs
The Mustangs had an interesting offensive game plan, in which they didn’t throw the ball but one time, which was incomplete. Mustang running backs took control of the game, as many of them racked up yardage. Running Back Jaesean DeBouse led the charge for the Mustangs, as he got hot and couldn’t be stopped. DeBouse rushed for 241 yards on 20 touches, ending up in the endzone twice on the night.
Merqucio Saiz rushed for 119 yards on 12 touches, finding the endzone once, and Jeremiah Mullen rushed for 78 yards on 7 touches, visiting the endzone one time himself. Leeroy Millan scored twice, rushing for 52 yards on 11 touches, and Aidyn Olivas ended the dominant offensive game for the Mustangs, rushing for 32 yards on his 5 touches. The Mustangs defense was dominating the Westerners offense all night, as they picked off Trevino in the 4th quarter, and allowed only 21 points and 350 total yards.
Andrews won 55-21.
Lubbock High will start District play against Palo Duro at home on October 6th. Andrews will defend their home ground against Canyon, who is coming off a 35-21 win over Greenwood.
