Eric Watson - CBS Insurance LLP - A Gallagher Company

On Friday night, the Frenship Tigers went on the road to take on the Midland Christian Mustangs in their last non-district matchup of the season. The Mustangs were coming off a 42-24 loss to CCHS but hoped to bounce back against the Tigers. Meanwhile, Frenship was riding high after a 51-42 win over Lubbock Cooper and looked to carry that momentum into this week.

As the game began, both defenses held strong, creating multiple stops and making key plays. However, the Tigers got on the board first, leading 7-0. With light scoring in the first quarter, both offenses found some rhythm, as the Mustangs racked up two touchdowns, while Frenship managed only one, tying the game 14-14 at halftime. In the second half, Frenship scored first with a Leyton Stone 65-yard touchdown pass, leading 21-14. After a key defensive stop, Stone added another 35-yard touchdown pass, increasing the lead to 28-14. The Mustangs responded with a touchdown before the quarter ended, narrowing the gap to 28-21.

In a back-and-forth contest, the Mustangs tied the game at 28-28 after stopping the Tigers. However, Frenship regained the lead with another touchdown, making it 35-28 with little time remaining. The Mustangs quickly drove down the field and scored, opting for a 2-point conversion to win the game, but Frenship’s defense came up big, securing the victory.

Frenship wins 35-34.

Next week, the Tigers enter their bye week and prepare for district play on October 11th, facing Midland at home. Midland, coming in at 3-1, is fresh off a bye week and will play their final non-district game against Santaluces.
