6A Team of the Week: Atascocita Eagles

Some are already saying that the game between Atascocita and Summer Creek last Friday will be the game of the year when everything is all set and done.

It certainly didn’t look that way in the second quarter. Atascocita led 35-7 after two touchdowns apiece from Oklahoma commit Tory Blaylock and Chris Toney and another score from Cardae Mack.

However, Summer Creek came out rolling in the second half with 32 unanswered points to grab the 39-35 lead with just three minutes remaining.

But after a frustrating 21 minutes, the Eagles found that last push they needed. They marched down the field before Blaylock punched it in for his third score of the night with just 12 seconds left. That score secured an unbelievable 42-39 victory for Atascocita.

Blaylock showed off his next-level ability the whole night, finishing with 179 rushing yards and those three touchdowns. Mack also had an impressive night, showcasing his athleticism as a next-level running back playing quarterback for the Eagles. He threw for 107 yards and a touchdown, while also carrying the ball 25 times for 209 yards.

Through six weeks, Atascocita has installed itself as one of the state title favorites. The Eagles have now knocked off state powerhouses Katy, Westlake, and Summer Creek. Their other two wins haven’t come easy either against playoff regulars Lamar and C.E. King.

Next up, they’ll take on Humble this Friday at home at 7:00.
