3A Team of the Week: Jefferson Bulldogs
A top ten showdown in 3A Division I between Jefferson and Texarkana Liberty-Eylau certainly lived up to the billing last Friday.
The game featured three lead changes in the second half alone.
With the clock winding down, Liberty-Eylau was holding on to a 34-27 lead, but Jefferson had the ball and one last chance to try and tie or win it.
With under a minute to go, Tihmyus Taylor found Jakyrie Johnson on a quick hitch by the sideline. Johnson then spun past one Liberty-Eylau defender before blowing by another for a 20-yard touchdown that cut the Leopards’ lead to one.
And after those heroics, the Bulldogs weren’t going to just settle for a tie. That decision paid off as Taylor dumped it to Kamran Williams for a two-point conversion that proved to be the difference in a 35-34 nailbiter.

In addition to that final play, Williams deserves a lot of credit after racking up 197 yards and two touchdowns on 33 carries. Taylor also had a great night through the air, finishing with 153 yards and three touchdowns. Johnson had just three receptions, but two of those were touchdowns. Williams had the other touchdown reception.
Defensively, Kobin Tomlinson had a monster night with 22 total tackles, Fellow sophomore Kaden Parish also broke double digits with 11 total tackles.
With the win, Jefferson improves to 9-0, wraps up the district title, and stays on course for its first undefeated regular season since 2018.
The last hurdle the Bulldogs will have to clear to reach that feat will be this Friday when they host Tatum in their final district contest.
