3A Team of the Week: Pilot Point Bearcats
A year ago, Pilot Point scored just 97 total points and finished 0-9.
That is all a distant memory after last Friday.
The Bearcats exploded for an 88-44 victory over Life Oak Cliff in a game that decided the final playoff spot in 6-3A Division I. According to Bill Spinks, it was the most points they’ve scored in a single game since 1937.
“I am so excited for our kids to be able to experience the playoffs. They have worked extremely hard for this, and have continued to gain confidence and believe in what we are building,” first-year Pilot Point head coach Chad Worrell said. “To see them improve each week, and have the reward of getting to this second season of playoffs, has been so much fulfilling as a coach.”
On a night that celebrated the naming of G.A. Moore Jr field. The Pilot Point Bearcats snaped a 14 game home losing streak by beating Dallas Life Oak 88-44. Josh Chumley paced a dominant Bearcat rushing attack with 224 yards and five touchdowns. In all, the Bearcats racked up 425 yards on the ground.
However, it wasn’t just the offense getting things done. Lane Eft and Jordan Young each returned a kickoff for a touchdown, and Bearcat safety Hunter Newman had a pick-six defensively.
Pilot Point will now need another complete performance this week if it wants to earn its first playoff win since 2020. The Bearcats will face Mexia on Thursday at the Gopher Bowl in Grand Prairie.
