Celina Crushes Kennedale, Advances to Round Three
The Celina Bobcats extended their playoff run Friday night with a commanding win over the Kennedale Wildcats in the second round. Kennedale entered the game looking to pull off an upset against the number one 4A team in Texas, but with a 5-5 season record, the challenge proved insurmountable. Meanwhile, Celina remained undefeated and showed why they are the top-ranked team in the state.
The Bobcats wasted no time establishing dominance, scoring their first of many touchdowns in the opening quarter. While Kennedale tried to respond, Celina’s defense shut them down, ensuring a first-half shutout. With their offense firing on all cylinders, Celina built a commanding 35-0 lead by halftime, leaving Kennedale searching for answers.
Celina maintained its momentum in the second half, adding another touchdown in the third quarter to extend its lead to 42-0. Kennedale managed to avoid a shutout with a late fourth-quarter touchdown, but it was far too late to change the game’s outcome. The Bobcats closed out a dominant 49-7 victory, showcasing both its offensive firepower and defensive tenacity.
With this win, Celina improves its perfect record and strengthens its case as the team to beat in the 4A Division I playoffs. Its defense, which has consistently held opponents to single digits, continues to be a cornerstone of its success, complemented by an unstoppable offense.
Next week, Celina faces Aubrey, fresh off a narrow 41-38 win over Decatur. Having already defeated Aubrey earlier this season, Celina will prepare for a determined rematch as they aim to secure another playoff victory on their path to the state title.
