After 2 Weeks Off Due to COVID-19, Humble Atascocita Eagles Wins 2nd Straight

The Humble Atascocita Eagles were in our and most publication top 10 rankings to start the season.  Going 23-4 over the last two seasons combined, the Eagles were a team many were looking at to make a possible state title run and to challenge North Shore in District 21-6A.  However, with an opening game 27-52 loss to the Allen Eagles, and two weeks of no games, the Eagles found themselves out of the conversation in 6A and down to #23 in our Top 25 (CLICK HERE for the rankings), but with two dominating wins, they’ll likely make a big move up our rankings and they’re back in the 6A playoff conversation.

Looming for the Eagles is a showdown with the North Shore Mustangs on November 27th.  That will likely decide the district, and be an indicator of the Eagle’s potential to make a deep run.  In the meantime, the Eagles are getting their season back on track after their opening loss and two weeks off.  Last week, they shutout Humble, 66-0.  This week, they traveled to Humble Kingwood and took care of business again, 48-10.

Atascocita looked really good in the “Battle for Lake Houston” against Kingwood this weekend.  Despite the final score, Kingwood battled. Their defense stopped the Eagles several times. Kingwood quarterback Jonathan Mendoza scored on a first-half 32-yard run and the game was 14-7 nearing halftime with Kingwood seeming to have momentum. However, Eagles QB Gavin Session hit Landen King for a 31-yard TD pass and Atascocita took a 21-7 halftime lead.  Atascocita put a clampdown on Kingwood and dominated the second half.

The Eagles QB, Gavin Sessions, threw four touchdown passes and 197 yards. He also ran for 78 yards.  Their defense was impressive. They sacked the Kingwood QB 6 times. The defense was led by Jordan Augustine, who had two interceptions.  They also forced two fumbles. If the Eagles defense can continue their stellar play, and the offense can put together two solid halves each game, Atascocita will be a contender to make a deep 6A playoff run as they look to make their first-ever state title game appearance.

Atascocita will host Humble Summer Creek next week.  The Summer Creek Bulldogs are 2-0 but are coming off a tough 14-49 loss to Sheldon C.E. King.   The Humble Kingwood Mustangs are still looking for their first win.  They are unlikely to get their first win next week against North Shore but they have a chance to the following week against the 1-3 Beaumont West Brook Bruins.
