Joshua Eaton, the 4-star cornerback from Aldine MacArthur, decommited from the Texas Longhorns Friday morning. The move is somewhat expected after rumors began recently swirling of his intentions.
Eaton wrote about his decision to leave the program and then posting it to Twitter saying:
Eaton is a long and rangey corner with high upside. He was a first team all-district selection his junior year in 2018, and his interest from recruiters really took off after he received an offer from the University of Texas.
Eaton will begin making visits and is rumored to favor the Oklahoma Sooners. He was the No. 29 cornerback and 51st player overall in the state according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
Texas recently lost another commitment from 4-star Manor defensive lineman Princely Umanmielen, who was also favoring the Sooners before his Texas commitment. Umanmielen was the 11th ranked strong side defensive end and 37th player in state according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
Both players were at positions of need for the Longhorns, who have been struggling on defense this season, specifically in the secondary.
Texas still holds commitments from John Tyler cornerback Kitan Crawford and Winter Park, Fla. product Ethan Pouncey, who is also a cornerback. Ethan is the younger brother of Texas receiver Jordan Pouncey.
