ALEDO, Texas — The crowd was alive at Bearcat Stadium as Aledo was on the brink of history against the Eaton Eagles out of Haslet.

The Bearkats entered the game on a 71-game district winning streak, with a victory against Eaton giving it the longest streak in the Lone Star State. When the smoke of Friday night football cleared for another weekend, the 52-13 finish or the shattered all-time record for the longest district win streak came almost as no surprise to those in attendance.

Eaton returned the opening kickoff to the 32-yard line but the drive was short lived as quarterback Riley Taylor fumbled the ball at the 40-yard line and Aledo cornerback Giovanni Torres picked it up and took it to the house to put Aledo up 7-0 early. Eaton’s next drive started at their own 25-yard line. They drove all the way down to the Bearcat 27 yard line before the Aledo defense held and forced a fourth down.

However, Rhett Marshall’s field goal attempt fell short.

Aledo responded quickly, marching 73 yards down the field capped off by an 11-yard touchdown run by Tre Owens to make it 14-0. Eaton would go three and out on their next drive and Tre Owens would make them pay again from 46 yards out to make it 21-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The Eagles punted on the first play of the second quarter and the Bearcats took over at the 25-yard line. They would drive down to the one-yard line before quarterback Jake Bishop scampered in from one yard out to make it 28-0. Eaton punted again and the Bearcats drove down to the 19-yard line where Jake Bishop hit Beau Mask for the touchdown pass to make the score 35-0. Both teams stalled on their next drive to end the half.

The Bearcats took the second half kick and struck quickly as Tre Owens took it around the right side 61 yards for the touchdown to make it 42-0. Eaton could not get their offense going and punted again. The offense drove all the way to the 10-yard line to set up a touchdown pass from Bishop to Hunter Rosson to make the score 49-6. Eaton finally got on the board on a screen pass that went for 82 yards from Riley Taylor to Titus Swen.

However, Rhett Marshall’s kick went off the upright and the score remained 49-6 to end the third quarter. The teams traded punts on their next drives. Aledo’s next drive would stall at the Eagle 13 to set up a Will Turner 30 yard field goal to make it 52-6. Eaton was out of time for a comeback but managed to get one more touchdown on a 1 yard run by Dawson Pell to make it 52-13. The clock then hit triple zeros and the had Bearcats made history again.

“It feels great,” Aledo running back Tre Owens said after the record-breaking win. “It feels good to know that I just made history with Aledo. I love that I got to do that with this team.”

Aledo improves to 7-0 and will face FW Brewer (5-2) next Friday, while Eaton drops to 3-4 and faces Azle (3-4) next week.
