Aledo Outplays Red Oak in High-Scoring Game
On Friday night, the Bearcats and Hawks met at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas for a 3rd round playoff matchup.
Red Oak Hawks
The Hawks started off slow and woke up late as Chris Martinez completed 18 of 30 passes for 239 yards, throwing for 3 touchdowns and rushing for 67 yards. Martinez connected with Taz Williams for 105 yards on 6 catches and a touchdown, Charles Taplin on a 42-yard receiving touchdown, and Brayden Robinson, whose 5 catches for 33 yards netted him one touchdown. Although the Hawks had success in the air, they struggled on the ground as Zackery Barnes rushed for 6 yards on a single carry and Lozeno Holman rushed for 5 yards on 9 carries.
Aledo Bearcats
The Bearcats started hot and never stopped as Hauss Hejny completed 13 of 18 passes for 245 yards and 2 touchdowns. Hejny also gained 38 yards on the ground. Hejny connected with receivers Kaydon Finley on 7 receptions for 161 yards, scoring twice, and Colton McCoy, who had 2 catches for 37 yards. The Bearcats also powered through the Hawks’ defense on the ground as Raycine Guillory rushed for 190 yards on 14 carries, scoring 4 touchdowns. Kaden Winkfield added to the yards on the ground as he rushed for 52 yards on 6 carries, and Hawk Patrick-Daniels totaled 49 yards on 5 carries, scoring once.
Aledo comes away with the win, 59-35.
Next week, Aledo will take on Abilene, who is 11-2 and coming off a 27-16 win against Northwest. Abilene is a challenging team to defend as they use two quarterbacks who can both run and pass, keeping any defense on its toes.
