On Friday night in Allen, Texas, the Eagles hosted rival Cedar Hill Longhorns in a highly anticipated and physical matchup that would be one for the ages. These two teams had not met since 2021, when Allen won 35-16. Both teams were coming off huge wins, with Allen dominating Midland Legacy 61-0 in a playoff rematch. Allen finished that game with 532 total yards while holding the Rebels to 250 yards and no scores. Cedar Hill had started their season strong, beating Midlothian 40-7, with 486 yards of total offense while allowing only 173 yards.
First Half
Allen started the game with the ball and quickly made progress down the field, with Brady Bricker connecting with Donnell Gee Jr. for a 10-yard touchdown pass to take an early lead. Both teams struggled throughout the rest of the first half to put points on the board until Dayshun Reese rushed for a 5-yard touchdown with 32 seconds left. However, the Longhorns’ extra point attempt was blocked, and Allen thought they would go into halftime up by just one. But on Allen’s final possession of the half, Bricker rushed for 40 yards, almost putting them in field goal range. After a sack, he spiked the ball with one second left, and as time expired, he launched a 45-yard pass to Carter Harris, who caught it for a touchdown, giving Allen a 14-6 lead at halftime.
Second Half
Cedar Hill received the ball to start the second half but quickly turned it over. Allen built on their first-half momentum, outscoring Cedar Hill 28-8 in the second half. Lyndon Spriggs rushed for two of the four touchdowns scored in the second half, helping Allen secure the victory.
Allen Wins 42-14
Next week, Allen will travel to Rock Hill to start district play. The Rock Hill Hawks are 1-1 on the season, coming off a dominating 43-7 win over the Sherman Bearcats. Cedar Hill will travel to Red Oak for a non-district matchup, looking to bounce back after their loss. The Hawks are 0-2 on the season, following a 50-14 loss to Seguin.
