Allen Eagles Soar Past the Broncos

On Friday night, district play began at Mckinney ISD stadium, where the Allen Eagles traveled to play the Mckinney Boyd Broncos. Allen, who is coming off a dominating performance against Arlington Martin, hoped to continue their dominance against Mckinney Boyd, who is coming off a thrilling overtime win against Plano West.

Allen Eagles

The Allen offense would prove effective through the air again as Quarterback Brady Bricker completed 11 of 18 passes, threw for 186 yards, and rushed for 38 yards. Bricker connected with receiver Donnell Gee, who had 2 catches for 51 yards, and the only receiving touchdown of the night for Allen. Caleb Smith would get his share through the air as he caught 4 passes for 79 yards, as well as Messiah Washington, who caught 3 passes for 29 yards.

Quinton House-Hammonds would get a few targets through the air as well, catching 2 passes for 27 yards. As productive as Allen was through the air, the run game was unstoppable, as Amir McDowell rushed for 108 yards on 13 touches, and racked up 3 touchdowns on the night. Another Allen running back, Jaxsen Lyons, also had 3 rushing touchdowns on the night. Micah Ellis continued his success from last week, rushing for 38 yards on 4 touches and a touchdown. And backup Quarterback Brett Holloway also got his number called, as he rushed for 53 yards on 4 touches and a touchdown.

The Eagle defense stepped up in this game and ended up almost shutting out the Boyd Broncos. The defense also forced two turnovers, a fumble recovery by Drew King on a fake punt, and an interception by Japrei Wafer, who returned it for 6o yards. In the end, the Eagle defense held the Broncos to 128 total yards of offense and 7 points.

Mckinney Boyd Broncos

Boyd was trying everything to keep up with Allen, but Quarterback Marcus Johnson could only complete 9 out of 18 passes for 80 yards and rush for 12 yards. Johnson would connect with Ben Podor, who caught 2 passes for 56 yards, and Cameron Roy, who caught 2 passes for 12 yards. The only score for Boyd came from Tyler Wall on a 14-yard run.  Wall ended up rushing for 29 yards on 18 touches for the night. The Boyd defense could not stop Allen.  Even though they intercepted Bricker 2 times, it wouldn’t turn any tides for Boyd, as they allowed 461 total yards on the night.

Allen cruised to an easy win 63-7.

Both teams will continue district play next week, as Allen will return home to take on 2-2 Denton Braswell, who is coming off a win against Prosper Rockhill 34-14.  Mckinney Boyd will take on a 4-0 Mckinney Lions team, coming off a dominant 51-10 win against Little Elm.
