6A Team of the Week: East Central Hornets
Playing in just the eighth area round matchup in program history, East Central was determined to make the most of the opportunity.
That’s exactly what it did.
The Hornets stung Weslaco with 37 first half points before holding off the Panthers in the second half to secure the 37-30 victory. That win means East Central is heading back to the third round of the playoffs for the first time in 29 years.

The Hornets came out ready to ground and pound. East Central running back Myron Robinson had a winding 46-yard touchdown run to open the scoring. Zechariah Jones then struck from six yards out before Robinson added his second touchdown on the day on an 18-yard scamper complete with a spin move.
Early in the second quarter, Robinson barreled his way in from three yards out to complete his hat trick of touchdowns. By that point, East Central held a 27-14 lead.
Weslaco also had a tough time containing Hornet quarterback Isaiah Mackey. In the second quarter, he slipped out right before lobbing a pass over the Panther defense for a catch-and-run 33-yard touchdown. A field goal with time running down by Hornet kicker Michael Lorber completed the barrage of first half East Central points.
East Central is going to need to bring plenty of sting this week too if it wants to advance to the fourth round for the first time in school history. The Hornets will take on Lake Travis in Seguin at 1:00 on Friday.
