Don’t look now but Tomball is peaking at the right time again.
A year after the Cougars made a run to the state semifinals, they’re back to wreaking havoc in the playoffs.
This time it was previously undefeated New Caney that fell into the grasp of the Cougars.
Trailing 13-3 with just five minutes left, Tomball running back Christian Womack scored a two-yard rushing touchdown to cut the deficit to three.
He wasn’t done.
With just 23 seconds left, Womack repeated his act, finding the end zone from eight yards out to give Tomball its first lead of the game. And although New Caney blocked the extra point and returned it for a score, Tomball held on for a 16-15 victory.

Womack led the Tomball offense all game long with 151 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 33 carries.
The win means Tomball is in the third round of the playoffs for just the second time since 2010.
Next up for the Cougars will be a stiff test against DeSoto on Friday in Pflugerville as they look to continue their remarkable run of playoff success.
