Atascocita Rolls Past Dobie to Area Round

In our first Top 25 Rankings this season, Atascocita started out at #6.  We were high on the Eagles.  Though, they lost their first game to Allen, 27-52.  They followed it up with a few very impressive performances to move up in our rankings, but then they had a closer than expected 28-24 win over C.E. King and a big 14-63 loss to North Shorth.   You had to worry that they might not be entering the playoffs firing on all cylinders but with a great performance in the last game of the season, and a dominant 51-14 win over the Dobie Longhorns, the Eagles are once again looking like a serious contender to make a deep playoff run.

Atascocita quarterback Gavin Session, making his first playoff start, was the star of the game.  He threw for 254 yards and 3 touchdowns.  He also ran for 195 yards.  He did have a fumble and an interception, and they’ll need to avoid turnovers like that if they want to beat Pearland in the next round. Landen King, who is committed to Auburn, had a touchdown and 5 catches, and Chase Sowell added two touchdowns.

The Dobie Longhorns end their season at 9-1.  They went undefeated in the regular season and won District 22-6A.  They averaged over 52 points this year per game, and they had few close games.  Their biggest win was what won them the District, beating Deer Park 42-21.  Deer Park was 5-1 in District play.  The Longhorns should be very proud of their season, they just ran into a tough Atascocita team.

Atascocita will take on the Pearland Oilers in their next playoff game.  The Oilers just took down Clear Springs, 44-37.  Pearland was 7-2 in their regular season, though they struggled against their best two opponents, Shadow Creek and Pearland Dawson.  However, Pearland’s win over Clear Springs is impressive and the game against Atascocita will be one to keep an eye on.
