Bad News for the Bears: Cypress Park Wins Big Over Bridgeland
A brief appearance by star QB Conner Weigman couldn’t help Bridgeland on Friday night.
By the time the horn sounded, Cypress Park was celebrating a big win in the program’s history. The Tigers got their first victory in four tries against Bridgeland with a 35-13 beat down.
Cypress Park Wins Big Over Bridgeland
Tigers quarterback Edward Dixon passed for 238 yards and three touchdowns.
Cy Park pressured Bridgeland quarterbacks early and often to race to a quick 10-0 lead.
Bridgeland punted on its opening possession, then Dixon hit a wide-open Harold Perkins, who raced for a 57-yard touchdown. The Tigers set up an onside kick on the kickoff and recovered it, resulting in a made field goal.
Perkins had 3 catches for 81 yards and a touchdown on offense and made an interception on defense.
The Tigers were up 17-0 at halftime after Dixon threw his second touchdown pass, a 43-yard TD strike to Cameron King as the half came to a close.
Weigman went in for two possessions, but couldn’t move the ball. The Bears punted four times and gained a paltry 33 yards on just 23 plays in the 1st half. Jonathan Nelson and Josh Stephens also ran plays at quarterback for the Bears.
Weigman sat out the entire second half.
2nd Half Domination by the Tigers
Cy Park continued to add to Bridgeland’s misery at the beginning of the third quarter.
The Tigers recovered a punt that touched a Bridgeland player. Dixon then connected with Nathan Livingston for a 29-yard touchdown. Cy Park recovered another on-side kick and promptly scored on a 34-yard run by Cameron King.
King finished with 61 yards rushing and a score.
Livingston converted the two-point try for a 32-0 lead early on in the third quarter.
Nelson connected with WR Andrew Maleski on touchdown passes of 24 and 11 yards in the 3rd quarter, making the score 32-13 going into the 4th quarter. That’s where the scoring ended for Bridgeland.
Baylor Williams had to come in for one play as the quarterback after Nelson lost his helmet and had to come out.
His only pass attempt resulted in an interception by Perkins, which halted Bridgeland’s comeback. The Tigers then converted a 39-yard field goal.
Final Score: Cypress Park 35 – Bridgeland 13
The Tigers gained 422 total yards, while Bridgeland only managed 151. Cypress Park gained 19 first downs to only eight for the Bears.
Cy-Park remains undefeated at 7-0. Bridgeland drops to 5-2.
