SAGINAW, Texas – Stephenville and Wichita Falls Hirschi have two of the most explosive offenses left in the 4A DI playoffs.
Each comes into this matchup with 11-2 records. Both reach the Regional final on impressive winning streaks, Stephenville with a seven-game streak and Hirschi with four.
For the Hirschi Huskies, Junior running back Daimarqua Foster, quarterback Mar’Tez Vrana and receiver Javen Banks set the tone.
Coming into this game Foster had rushed for 100 yards in twelve straight games. Last week against Decatur, Foster scored four times in a 58-28 victory. He also had a 75-yard punt return.
Banks also made an impact with two touchdown catches against Decatur. Banks has 870 yards on the season with 14 touchdowns.
Vrana has been consistent for the Huskie offense all season. His 2,154 yards passing and 23 touchdowns are impressive.
Defensively, Hirschi is lead by highly touted defensive tackle Lloyd Murray Jr. (6’2, 310).
The Stephenville Yellow Jackets are historically known throughout the state of Texas for their quarterbacks. The only thing that changes is the name. This year the gunslinger is Easton Jones.
Jones has passed for 29 touchdowns, 2505 yards while averaging 208 yards a game.
Running back Krece Nowak rushed for 156 yards and two touchdowns last week against a good Argyle defense.
Receiver Blake Aragon has 807 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns coming into the Region I final. Defensively for Stephenville linebacker Blu Caylor is one of its leading tacklers. Leading his team with 154 tackles and 12 tackles for loss.
The deciding factor in this game will be which defense can make a key stop and limit the other team’s offensive fire power.
Players on both teams sometimes play pull double duty. Foster at linebacker and Stephenvilles’ Aragon plays cornerback occasionally. A big defensive stop or turnover by either team will decide the outcome on Friday night.
Prediction:
Wichita Falls Hirschi 31
Stephenville 24
