The D/FW Metroplex will have a vast assortment of great high school football games come the first week of the season. While there is plenty to chose from only a couple of games could be highlighted as some of the best non-district matchups in Week 1.
Here is some of the action that will be going on in Week 1 in no particular order.
Where will you be?
Denton Guyer vs. Mansfield Lake Ridge (8/31) Vernon Newsome Stadium
A battle of playoff teams that pit one 5A and one 6A team poised for deep playoff runs that should provide plenty of offensive firepower.
Alvarado vs. Justin Northwest (9/1) Northwest ISD Stadium
This game last year was quite the test for both teams and almost saw 4A Alvarado take down 5A Justin Northwest in a 27-21 game. Will Northwest be able to separate themselves more this year or will Alvarado steal one from Northwest
Colleyville Heritage vs. Aledo (9/1) Bearcat Stadium
Talk about powers colliding! Of course if you recall this game last year, it came down to some last second heroics as Aledo was able to tally up this game as a win and should be nothing short of another classic as both these teams have an array of talent on both sides of the ball. Definitely one to pay attention to.
DeSoto vs. Jesuit (9/1) Postell Stadium
DeSoto looks to make it back-to-back State Titles while Jesuit looks to fare better this year than their 0-3 mark in one of the toughest non-district schedules in the state.
Port Arthur Memorial vs. Dallas Bishop Dunne (9/2) Bishop Dunne
An interesting matchup of public vs private, Port Arthur Memorial carries a deep and talented team while Bishop Dunne has become the who’s who in the private school football scene in recent years. Looking like plenty of action to be seen when these two teams clash.
Lancaster vs. Denton Ryan (9/1) Denton’s C.H. Collins Athletic Complex
Two 5A teams that fell short of a state title appearance in their respective divisions. Both will be on a warpath to the title and will have a stout opponent to get through first with a battle of will and grit to determine this winner.
Duncanville vs. Plano East (9/1) Murphy’s Kimbrough Stadium
Two teams looking to take the next step in their respective divisions that will need to prove themselves week-in and week-out if they wish to leapfrog their respective district counterparts. One team will get off on the right foot while the other will have to rebound quickly.
Cedar Hill vs. Allen (9/1) Eagle Stadium
