Blake Meyer Named Centennial HS Head Football Coach

Centennial High School didn’t have to look far for its new head football coach. Burleson ISD has named Blake Meyer as Head Football Coach and Athletic Coordinator, a role that feels like a natural next step for a coach who’s been a key part of the program since day one.

Hired by Coach Kyle Geller in 2010 when Centennial first opened its doors, Meyer has spent 15 years as the Spartans’ defensive coordinator, helping shape a program that’s been one of the most consistent in North Texas. Now, he’s stepping up to lead the charge.

A Legacy of Success

Over his 25-year coaching career, Meyer has built a reputation as a defensive mastermind. As CHS defensive coordinator, he led all varsity defensive operations, designing a system that impacted teams from varsity down to seventh grade. His leadership helped the Spartans reach 11 straight playoff appearances since 2014, securing six bi-district championships, three area titles, and a state quarterfinal run.

One of the biggest highlights? A record-setting season that saw Centennial post the most wins in BISD history—powered by a defense that allowed just 16 points per game.

But Meyer’s impact isn’t just limited to football. He helped expand CHS athletics in a big way, founding the school’s first-ever wrestling program. Under his guidance, Centennial produced five individual state champions, including the first boy and girl UIL state champions in district history. He also played a key role in growing the powerlifting program, showing his dedication to developing well-rounded athletes.

Burleson ISD Leaders Back the Hire

For BISD Superintendent Dr. Bret Jimerson, Meyer was the clear choice to lead the program into the future.

“I have known him for many years and have seen firsthand his dedication to the school, the program, and our student-athletes. This commitment will allow him to continue the winning tradition at CHS, and I look forward to seeing the program thrive under his leadership.”

BISD Athletic Director Kevin Ozee echoed that excitement, emphasizing the respect Meyer has earned in the Centennial community.

“Coach Meyer has been an integral part of our athletic program for over a decade, demonstrating exceptional leadership, dedication, and a deep commitment to developing student-athletes both on and off the field. Blake is deeply respected by his players and the community. He has been Coach Geller’s right-hand man and will continue to build on CHS’s success.”

Meyer: “This Is a Dream Come True”

For Meyer, stepping into this role isn’t just another coaching job—it’s personal.

“This is a dream come true,” Meyer said. “I would like to thank the hiring committee and Coach Ozee for putting their trust in me. Thank you Dr. Jimerson and the Board of Trustees, not only for this opportunity but for all that they do to make Burleson ISD a special place. I would also like to thank Coach Geller for his leadership, which has helped guide and prepare me for this next chapter.

“I am excited to add to the great legacy that we have built here at Centennial. Most of all, I am excited to lead such a great group of young men. I couldn’t ask for a better team to coach. They are what makes Centennial special, and I am proud to be their coach.”

What’s Next?

Meyer officially takes over March 11. To celebrate, Centennial will host a reception for staff, players, and parents from 6-7 p.m. tonight ( Tuesday, March 11) in the indoor facility.

With his deep roots in the program and a proven track record of success, there’s no doubt that Coach Meyer is ready to lead Centennial into its next era.
