The UIL released two press releases today. They ruled today in an appeal that two student-athletes from Burkeville and one from Rising Star did not transfer for athletic purposes and therefore are eligible, immediately, to play varsity sports. In most of these cases that we’ve sene ruled on over the past few months, it is rare to see students win their appeal. Here is the statement from the UIL, which, as usual, is brief:
AUSTIN, TX — The State Executive Committee of the University Interscholastic League met Tuesday to hand down decisions on eligibility of student-athletes.
Two student-athletes from Burkeville High School and a student-athlete from Rising Star High School were granted an appeal for varsity eligibility. After hearing testimony from all parties, it was determined that these students did not change schools for athletic purposes.
The UIL also released a press release in which they announced they will be hearing cases on the eligibility of student-athletes from three schools. Here is their press release:
AUSTIN, Texas — The State Executive Committee of the University Interscholastic League will convene at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 14 via teleconference to determine the eligibility of student-athletes. It will be available Live on the UIL State Executive Committee Page. Please note that there is no physical location for this meeting in order to ensure safe social distancing, and it is only accessible via the live stream.
