Welcome to the TexasHSFootball.com District Predictions. Today – 22-6A.
Cody Daniel
La Porte cruised to the 22-6A title in 2016 and much of the same may be on the horizon next season. Deer Park and Pasadena Memorial appear to be the only legitimate contenders to dethrone the Bulldogs. The Deer replace a plethora of talent at key positions and that’s likely too much to overcome, at least in regards to winning a district title. The Mavericks lose much from a stout defense but it remains to be seen how much success can come from constantly handing the ball off to 2016 Offensive Player of the Year Alex Williams.
Meanwhile, La Porte replacing dual-threat quarterback Austin Upshaw and Defensive Player of the Year, Terrel Bernard, but has considerable talent in the backfield, secondary and linebacking corps. La Porte may not finished the regular season unscathed in district play, but it should finish as the district champ once again.
Prediction: La Porte
Jonathan Rodriguez
Deer Park and La Porte once again look to be the top two teams in the district for the 2017 season.
Last season La Porte bested Deer Park to give them their only district loss of the year but both teams suffered early-round losses in the playoffs last year.
La Porte has some young and hard-nosed defenders returning in defensive end Ryan Kendzior and defensive back Trent Soltes that provide the defense with some playmakers. They also have their replacements on offense in quarterback Brett Bihm and running back Ziree George ready to lead this team back to the playoffs. I like La Porte once again in 2017.
Prediction: La Porte
Hunter Cooke
It’s a tough call, but I like La Porte, mostly because of the combination of Kendzior and Soltes. Deer Park isn’t going to be an easy out, but I still like La Porte to finish off this regular season with a repeat title. The Bulldogs have some truly impressive young players, and I think they’re going to be a threat to whoever they play.
Prediction: La Porte
