Central Bobcats Dominate Waco Lions with a 37-6 Victory

Eric Watson - CBS Insurance LLP - A Gallagher Company

The Central Bobcats continued their winning streak Friday night with a commanding 37-6 victory over the Waco Lions at San Angelo Stadium. The Bobcats’ defense was impenetrable, allowing only 106 total yards and a single first down in the second half. Christian English led the offense with 199 passing yards, a touchdown, and two rushing scores. Central broke a 6-6 tie early in the second quarter and scored five consecutive times, putting the game out of reach by halftime.

Central’s offense started strong, scoring on its opening drive with a 5-yard touchdown pass from English to Jimmy Edwards. Waco briefly tied the game at 6-6 with a Mason Smith 8-yard run, but turnovers and defensive stops kept the Lions out of the game. A 43-yard field goal from Evan Vaughn as time expired in the second quarter gave the Bobcats a comfortable 16-6 lead at halftime. English’s 1-yard rushing touchdown early in the third quarter, followed by a Darius Huitt score, extended the lead to 30-6.

In the fourth quarter, English sealed the victory with an impressive 22-yard scramble for a touchdown. Central’s defensive dominance continued, allowing no points for Waco in the second half. The win improved Central’s record to 3-2 as they head into a bye week before facing Midland Legacy in district play. Waco dropped to 2-3 and will begin district play against Brenham on Oct. 11.
