Friday night, September 15th, 2023, the Cinco Ranch Cougars (2-2) vs. the Tompkins Falcons (1-3) took place. These are two of the strongest teams in the Katy area besides The Katy Tigers themselves. Let’s check out how this Katy Showdown went.
The Tompkins Falcons were dominating early on in the 1st half Tompkins running back #21 Caleb Blocker scored the first three touchdowns of the game and on defense, kept the Cougars at bay, and they caught two interceptions. Cinco Ranch just could not get into flow until sophomore quarterback #15 Davis Roup threw a touchdown pass to wide receiver #6 Scott Eckel. After that, Cinco Ranch scored one more touchdown before the end of the 2nd quarter, making the score 21-14 with Tompkins leading by half.
During the 2nd half, Cinco Ranch kept applying the pressure, and Davis Roup threw two touchdown passes, and they finally took the lead with a score of 28-21. Tompkins was not out the game Caleb Blocker scored his 4th touchdown tying up the game at 28-28. Cinco Ranch received the kickoff, and in a series of plays running back #4 Tessiah Young scored a touchdown. Cinco Ranch, before time ran out, kicked a field goal sealing the game with a final score of 38-28.
What an amazing game I love seeing the football team come back and never give up until the last play to win in the end. Cinco Ranch’s quarterback Davis Roup pulled his team together. He completed 21/26 passes, 247 passing yards, and threw 3 touchdown passes. Davis, only being in his sophomore year, I’m excited to see his progress in the next two seasons of high school football.
