Week 6 – TXHSFB Plus+ Premium Content
Region I | ||
Team | Rec | |
1 | Stratford | (4-0) |
2 | Anson | (5-0) |
3 | Stamford | (4-1) |
4 | New Deal | (5-0) |
5 | Seymour | (5-0) |
6 | Hale Center | (3-2) |
7 | Panhandle | (3-2) |
8 | Lockney | (2-2) |
9 | Sunray | (3-2) |
10 | Quanah | (2-3) |
Watch List: Windthorst (2-3); Haskell (2-3); Forsan (2-3); Memphis (1-3)
Analyzing The Region: Much like the other three regions in Class 1A1, Region I has its fair share top heavy programs and those programs are expected to be right in the mix in the end. Stamford slipped up against 2A power Cisco this past weekend, but the lessons learned by the Bulldogs about themselves could pay dividends in the long run. If any of the top five slips up, the teams right behind them in the rankings will be more than capable of making their own stamp on the region.
Region II | ||
Team | Rec | |
1 | Cayuga | (4-0) |
2 | Hico | (5-0) |
3 | Quinlan Boles | (5-0) |
4 | Santo | (4-1) |
5 | DeLeon | (4-1) |
6 | Wolfe City | (3-2) |
7 | Italy | (1-3) |
8 | Simms Bowie | (3-2) |
9 | Celeste | (3-2) |
10 | Chico | (4-0) |
Watch List: Kerens (1-3); Lindsay (1-3); Irion County (2-1); Munday (2-3)
Analyzing The Region: For the most part, even though there are some clear cut favorites coming out of this region like that of Cayuga, Hico, Quinlan Boles and Santo, the reality is right in the rear view mirror. Region II is wide open. The district races 5-1A1 and 8-1A1 are going to be the keys to the region. Seven of the ten teams from Region II rankings are from those two districts.
Region III | ||
Team | Rec | |
1 | Alto | (3-2) |
2 | Harleton | (4-1) |
3 | Mart | (2-3) |
4 | Timpson | (4-0) |
5 | Bosqueville | (4-1) |
6 | Joaquin | (2-2) |
7 | Beckville | (3-2) |
8 | Colmesneil | (5-0) |
9 | West Sabine | (3-1) |
10 | Jewett Leon | (4-1) |
Watch List: Axtell (3-2); Iola (3-1); Shelbyville (3-2); Price Carlisle (2-2)
Analyzing The Region: If you are looking at wins and losses to strictly to judge the teams in this region, tap the breaks and consider this.. Alto and Mart selected a rather tough non-district schedule to help build their teams around contending for a regional crown and beyond. Look for both to find more confidence as the season moves forward. That said, the depth of the region is not as strong as many would seem to believe. Teams like Joaquin, Bosqueville and Iola will be looking to the district schedule as a major confidence booster.
Region IV | ||
Team | Rec | |
1 | Thorndale | (4-1) |
2 | Mason | (4-1) |
3 | Shiner | (2-2) |
4 | Brackettville | (5-0) |
5 | Weimar | (3-1) |
6 | Flatonia | (3-2) |
7 | Holland | (4-1) |
8 | La Villa | (3-2) |
9 | Ganado | (3-2) |
10 | Junction | (3-1) |
Watch List: Harper (3-2); Santa Maria (4-1); Three Rivers (3-2)
Analyzing The Region: In all reality, the general assumption of Region IV is that it is the weaker of the four regions. For the most part, that assumption is true, but it is also one of the more competitive regions in the state. At the top, there is Thorndale, Mason and Shiner as the primary forces. Brackettville, Weimar and Flatonia plus La Villa and Ganado are what could be consider the second tier of teams that could rise to the occasion. For this region, that second tier of teams maybe the ones to watch over the next few weeks.
