The Houston Cougars picked up a commitment from one of the most explosive players in the Houston area and perhaps the state on Friday in Clear Springs wide receiver Peyton Sawyer.

Sawyer chose the Cougars over offers from Tulsa, Arizona State, Texas State, Texas Tech and Tulane. The three-star prospect was a one-time Tulsa commit but de-committed less than two weeks ago and re-opened his recruitment.
2016 proved to be a big year for the Clear Springs standout both as a receiver and as a kick returner. He finished the year with 48 catches for 817 yards and 10 touchdowns and six return touchdowns (5 kickoff, 1 punt) in 2016. His play earned him a first-team all-district selection as a receiver and kick returner and even was selected as a second-team all-district punter.
The speedy commit becomes the 18th commit in the Class of 2018 for head coach Major Applewhite and the Cougars. Houston currently has the top-ranked recruiting class in the American Athletic conference per the 247 Sports Composite Rankings.
Sawyer was a big reason that the Chargers took home the District 24-6A title last season and will look to make a deeper run in the playoffs in 2017.
