It was a tough weekend for Monterey High School football coach Judd Thrash.
Thrash, 43, was arrested early Saturday morning after a single-vehicle crash near 130th Street and Quaker Avenue in Lubbock. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and failure to leave information after allegedly damaging a structure. His bond was set at $2,500, and he was released later that day.
According to police, officers responded to a report of a crash with injuries around 1 a.m. Lubbock ISD confirmed they are aware of the off-campus incident but, citing privacy and ongoing legal matters, declined to comment further.
Thrash, who has helped turn around the Monterey Plainsmen football program, is now facing serious questions off the field. Under his leadership, the Plainsmen showed real signs of improvement. After going 0-10 in 2022, Monterey improved to 4-6 in 2023 and 7-5this past season, posting a 5-1 district record and grabbing a key win over Abilene, the other 5-1 team in district play.
Their season ended with a playoff loss to Denton Ryan, but the Plainsmen were definitely trending up.
