Controversial Call Eliminates Team from Playoffs
We had a little controversy in District 11-5A Division 1 which has one team out of playoff contention.
The Leander Glenn Grizzlies came into their battle with the Georgetown Eagles at 5-3. A win would put them 4th in district play and highly likely to make the playoffs. A loss would eliminate them from playoff contention. For most of the game, it appeared that the Grizzlies would get the much-needed win.
Glenn controlled most of the first half of the game, all be it close. They had a 17-7 lead late into the first half. But, the Eagles found the end-zone on a long 50-yard touchdown from Noah Booras to Marquis Dominguez to cut the Glenn lead to 17-14.
Then, just 2 minutes into the third-quarter, Booras hit Andrew Petter for a 45-yard touchdown and a 21-17 lead. Then, with just over 3 minutes to go in the third, Dominguez caught his third touchdown of the game to make it 28-17.
The Grizzlies were able to put together a scoring drive early in the fourth, getting a field goal to cut the lead to 28-20. Then, things got wild.
Georgetown blocked a Glenn punt, but Glenn recovered it. Glenn kept possession and moved the ball down the field. With just over 1 minute to go, Glenn had the ball first and goal.
On third down, they had the ball inside of 1 minute and inside the 1-yard line looking for a tying touchdown and go-ahead extra point. QB Sky Mendez ran for what seemed like the tying touchdown. The Grizzlies fans celebrated. Most of the Eagles fans assumed it was a touchdown. But, after a very long delay, Mendez was ruled short.
Glen got two more chances to score from inside the 1-yard line, with an Eagles penalty giving them third and goal again. But, Georgetown stopped Glenn on twice more from inside the 1, and the ball was turned over on downs. The Eagles took a safety on the final play to end the game 28-22.
Georgetown improved to 5-1 in the district and 7-2 overall. They face Cedar Park next week, and Cedar Park has now replaced Glenn for 4th in the district at 4-2 in district play, though 4-5 overall. Glenn falls to 3-3 in district play and 5-4 overall. They finish their season at College Station A&M Consolidated Tigers. The Tigers are tied with Georgetown at 5-1 in the district and 7-2 overall.

Glenn was given the the Touchdown that Sky made and declined the penalty against Georgetown. After about 10 mins the touchdown was taken away. Terrible refs!
