Coppell’s offense found its rhythm Friday night — and it came on the ground. The Cowboys ran wild in a 41-23 win over previously undefeated Lewisville, handing the Fighting Farmers their first loss of the season in convincing fashion at Buddy Echols Field.
Sophomore quarterback Carter Zingelmann led the charge with 149 rushing yards and three touchdowns, continuing his breakout season. Senior Jayden George added 140 yards, including a stunning 98-yard scoring sprint early in the first quarter that set the tone for a dominant night.
Coppell piled up 329 rushing yards and forced six turnovers, including three interceptions from Anthony Lewis. Safety Tyrell Roberson added a defensive touchdown, returning an interception for a score late in the first quarter.
Lewisville managed flashes of life behind quarterback Tre Williams, who threw for 249 yards and two touchdowns, but four interceptions proved costly. Running back Derrick Martin added a 100-yard kickoff return, one of the few highlights for the Farmers.
Coppell (5-1, 3-1) now sits tied for second in District 5-6A and has won three straight over Lewisville. With momentum building and their ground attack firing on all cylinders, the Cowboys look poised for a deep playoff push.
Lewisville (6-1, 3-1) will regroup after seeing its perfect season snapped but remains in strong position for postseason contention.
