Coronado Holds Off Caprock 34-29 in Thrilling Victory

On Friday, October 18th, the Coronado Mustangs faced the Caprock Longhorns in a competitive game that showcased strong performances from both teams. Coronado came into the game on a 6-game losing streak, having just lost to the Abilene Eagles, 40-59. Caprock came into this game on a losing streak too, having lost their last three games.

Coronado jumped to an early lead by executing effective offensive plays and capitalizing on opportunities. However, the Longhorns quickly adjusted, driving down the field to keep the score close and showcasing their ability to respond under pressure.

Throughout the first half, both teams exchanged touchdowns, maintaining a tight contest. Coronado managed to pull slightly ahead by the end of the third quarter, leading 27-22. Caprock wasn’t finished, though, as the Longhorns mounted a determined comeback in the fourth quarter, tying the game at 29 with a hard-fought touchdown drive.

With time winding down, the Mustangs took possession and executed a decisive final drive. They found the end zone for the go-ahead score, securing a thrilling 34-29 victory. The back-and-forth nature of the game highlighted both teams’ competitive spirit and ability to perform under pressure.

The Mustangs’ season record is now 1-7. Next week, they will look to get their second win of the season against Amarillo. The Longhorns improved to 2-5 on the season and look to get their third win of the season next week against Lubbock.
