On Thursday night, Coronado traveled to Amarillo to play Caprock, who was looking to bounce back after a loss to Canyon.

In a game dominated by defense, Coronado Quarterback Dominic Parrish was able to complete 11 of 18 passes for 123 yards, rush for 59 yards and score a touchdown.   Parrish connected with receivers Surreal Garrett, who had 5 catches for 56 yards and two touchdowns, and Joe Castro, who had 3 catches for 29 yards.

Demarion Finch had 2 catches for 27 yards, and also rushed for 34 yards on 14 carries. The Coronado defense came in clutch on the night, holding Caprock to only 7 points.  Making big stops for the Mustangs were Zakavian Washington and Willie Parker, who combined for 34 tackles on the night

Caprock

Quarterback LLeyton Brown was trying his best to keep his team in the game, as he completed 6 passes on 17 attempts for 57 yards.  Brown connected with Andrew Apodac, who caught 2 passes for 34 yards, and Dallas Juarez, who had 1 catch for 12 yards. The ground game was proving more effective than the air game, as Jaymaurie Johnson rushed for 64 yards on 15 touches.

Another Longhorn running back, Zayden Ramirez, rushed for 31 yards on 6 touches, and scored his team’s only touchdown of the night. The Caprock defense held Coronado close all game, up until the 4th quarter.  Nothing Caprock did was going as planned, as they let Coronado score two touchdowns, which put the game out of reach for the Longhorns.

Coronado came out on top 21-7.

Coronado continues district play next week, as they defend their home turf against Lubbock Cooper in a cross-town rivalry.  Caprock will also continue their district play, as they travel to play Amarillo.
