Hurricane Harvey may have slammed Texas and left Houston weak at the knees with unprecedented flooding, but Harvey couldn’t take the spirit of the people of Texas.

Though there’s typically a wide divide between fans of the Houston Texans and Dallas Cowboys, the groups will come together for a common cause Thursday night. The Texans had to move the final preseason game from its home at NRG Stadium to AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

Proceeds from the game will go to the United Way of Greater Houston Relief Fund, which supports efforts of the Red Cross and The Salvation Army for Hurricane Harvey relief and recovery along the Texas Gulf Coast.

All tickets for Thursday’s game will cost $25, and parking will be $25. For those who want to donate but will not attend the game, you can visit redcross.org.
On Monday, the Texans and Cowboys each donated $1 million, the New England Patriots donated $1 million and the NFL foundation donated a million. The Houston Astros donated $4 million and the Houston Rockets donated $10 million.

Texans defensive end J.J. Watt began an online donation campaign and made a contribution of $100,000. The community reached Watt’s goal of $500,000, and then $1 million. As of this post, the new goal is $4 million.

Some parts of Houston received more than 50 inches of rain, and parts of the inner loop received more than 40 inches, with south Houston getting 49.20 inches of rain. The death toll of Harvey has reached 15, which includes a Houston police officer who drowned early Tuesday morning.

More than 9,000 evacuees at George R. Brown Convention Center and that some “mega shelter locations” would open later Tuesday.

The Cowboys and Texans typically play the final preseason game against each other and rotate the site on a yearly basis, much to delight of the fans.

This year Cowboys fans can show true Texas spirit and helping their fellow Texans. The score won’t have any implication of either team’s season, but the profits will mean the world to the people in Houston.
