Thursday night features a top showdown of cross-town rivals in District 17-6A as Cy-Ranch squares off with Cy-Fair from Cy-Fair FCU Stadium. The Cy-Ranch Mustangs (2-0) is fresh off a 26-14 win over Jersey Village and are currently on a 27-game district winning streak. Quarterback Fred Brooks will be under center for the Mustangs with Willie Eldridge taking the handoffs out of the backfield.
Two weeks ago in the opener against Cy-Falls, Eldridge ran for 72 yards and a touchdown on ten carries. However the Mustangs will have to rely heavily on their defense as their offense is fairly young and does not have much experience. Defensive back Christian Richards will be keeping the secondary strong against the Bobcat passing attack.
Cy-Fair(2-0) on the other hand has a rather high scoring offense led by returning 1,000-yard rusher Trenton Kennedy. The Bobcats have scored 63 total points in their last two games and only given up 21. But Cy-Fair is no stranger to close games as they are coming off of a close win against Cypress Springs 21-14.
The Mustangs edged Cy-Fair 24-17 last year but the Bobcats are looking to reverse their fortunes this time around. This one should come down to which defense can make a crucial stop. Cy-Ranch is quick but very young. Will experience be enough for the Bobcats to shut down the Mustang offense?
This is a very key game for both teams as it can very well decide playoff seeding and even potential district champion.
