Denton Guyer Stays Unbeaten With Win Over Prosper
It can be argued that District 5-6A is the toughest district in the state. On Friday night, Denton Guyer took another step forward cementing themselves as the district favorite, as the Wildcats dominated the Prosper Eagles 35-7 in Denton.
Denton Guyer Stays Unbeaten
Guyer came out with authority in the first half. After Peyton Bowen got the crowd going with a 58-yard return on the opening kickoff, the short field led to a 6-yard touchdown pass from Jackson Arnold to Jace Wilson, and a quick 7-0 lead.
After forcing a quick three and out on Prosper, Jackson Foster had a six-yard rushing touchdown and a 14-0 lead.
The Wildcat defense dominated the first half, forcing four Prosper punts and one interception. The Guyer offense added two more rushing touchdowns in the second quarter, a five-yard run from Byron Phillips and a 14 yard run from Arnold. The Wildcats led 28-0 at the half.
2nd Half Action
The Eagles tried to shift the momentum right after halftime. QB Harrison Rosar hit Houston Hawkins for a 59-yard touchdown to cut the lead to 28-7. But that was all the offense the Eagles could muster, as the rest of their second-half drives led to punts.
Guyer had a very balanced offensive performance. Arnold had an efficient night, completing 75% of his passes for 258 yards. They also got contributions from three different running backs. The defense played lights out, holding Prosper to 163 total yards, with 59 coming on one play.
The road doesn’t get any easier for Guyer. The Wildcats (6-0, 2-0) have city rival Denton Braswell next week. Braswell is coming off a beatdown of previously undefeated Little Elm. The Wildcats also still have Allen and Little Elm to look forward to.
Meanwhile, Prosper (3-3, 0-2) has their backs against the wall, falling to 0-2 in district play. The Eagles find themselves in a must-win position going forward if they hope to contend for a playoff spot. They host McKinney Boyd next Friday.
