Baylor continues to make a late surge in recruiting as they have snagged one of the state’s best in the trenches.
DeSoto offensive lineman Xavier Newman announced his commitment to Baylor on Saturday after previously being a Colorado commit earlier this year.

In his post, he is seen with head coach Matt Rhule and former Cedar Hill head coach Joey McGuire, who Rhule hired as an assistant on his staff.
The last time Coach McGuire and Newman interacted on a field, they were on opposite sidelines as DeSoto edged out its district rival Cedar Hill 55-41 in the Class 6A DII playoffs. Now, they will be on the sidelines together.
The 6-foot-3, 272-pound three-star recruit was instrumental in the Eagles’ run to the state title in December.
Selected as an Under Armour All-American, Newman protected Shawn Robinson’s blindside this season but is expected to transition into the role of a center.
