The Spring vs Westfield game was stopped due to a sideline clearing brawl on Friday night. There was six minutes left in the game with Westfield leading 36-25. Though there has not been a definitive answer as to why the fight started, district officials said a player that received back-to-back personal foul calls escalated the situation.
These are the actions that have been imposed by the district:
- Both teams will forfeit the game
- Both head coaches self-imposed a one game suspension
- All players listed on each teams school roster will be required to complete 25 hours of community service by the end of the school year
Westfield suspensions
- 4 players for 2 games
- 2 players for 1 game
Spring suspensions
- 1 player for 3 games
- 1 player for 2 games
- 3 players for 1 game
Superintendent Dr. Rodney E. Watson “Last Fridays game was disgraceful and unacceptable, the images from the game unfortunately overshadow the great things we have been doing and do not represent where we are going as a district.”
