Duncanville and DeSoto were set to do battle on November 27th but it was canceled due to Covid-19 precautions. They got their chance to face each other in the Regional Final. This game was not close as Duncanville dominated and will advance to the State Semifinal against Southlake Carroll as they look to reach the State Championship for the third year in a row.
The Duncanville defense was outstanding in the first half, holding DeSoto to 7 points and under 100 yards.
SMU signee Roderick Daniels Jr. was one of the stars of the game for Duncanville, with 8 catches for 267 yards and a touchdown. Though it was Chris Hicks Jr. who put the game away for Duncanville.
With the game at 35-21 and DeSoto making a bit of a comeback, Duncanville Grayson James hurdled a DeSoto defender and ran 51 yards to the endzone but fumbled at the goal line. Hicks Jr. was there to recover the fumble in the endzone for a touchdown and put the game out of reach with 6 minutes remaining.
Plano John Paul II transfer, Grayson James, had his best game of the season. He threw for 471 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Duncanville will move on to face the Southlake Carroll Dragons. The Dragons were ranked high to start the season but fell a bit with an early loss to Rockwall. They are 11-1, and with Quinn Ewers back, they’ve been rolling through the playoffs. It should be a big test for the Duncanville defense, but Duncanville will be favored in this matchup.
