Eli Stowers Leads Denton Guyer Past Abilene

The Texas A&M Aggies signee, Eli Stowers, dominated the 6A Division 2 Regional Semifinal between the Denton Guyer Wildcats and the Abilene Eagles to lead the Eagles to a 38-21 win and on to the Regional Final where they will face the Prosper Eagles.

The Eagles got off to a 7-0 lead when Jeshari Houston scored on a 49-yard touchdown run.  When the Wildcats got the ball, Stowers through an interception. It looked like Abilene was going to be in early control of the game, but Guyer took over from there.

The Wildcats tied the game on a Stowers to Brody Noble pass for a 33-yard touchdown. Following an interception, the Wildcats scored again on a 1-yard touchdown run from Ty Alridge to go up, 14-7.  Guyer then scored on a field goal from Michael Mayfield and a Jace Wilson 38-yard touchdown catch from Stowers to go up 24-7 going into halftime.

The Eagles defense shut down Guyer in the third quarter and their offense put 7 up on the board to cut the lead to 24-14 going into the fourth quarter.  The team’s exchanged touchdowns early in the fourth quarter and the score was 31-21.  Then the biggest play of the game happened.

Needing a third-down conversion to keep the ball and keep the Abilene offense, which had started moving the ball well, off the field, Stowers found himself in trouble.  Stowers took the snap and was immediately wrapped up by Eagle defender, but he somehow spun himself free and lofted a pass towards a very well covered receiver. Dylan Rivero came down with the ball, and Guyer scored later in the drive to put the game out of reach.

Eli Stowers finished with 356 total yards and 4 touchdowns.

The Denton Guyer Wildcats move on to face the Prosper Eagles for the second time this year.  They faced Prosper in the 5th game of their season, winning 24-23.
