Episcopal Knights vs Kinkaid Falcons Preview
Week 9 is here, and we have an amazing private school Friday Night Lights showdown between the Episcopal Knights and the Kinkaid Falcons. These are two of the best teams in the city and are cross-town rivals. Let’s analyze both teams’ strengths.
The Falcons have a versatile offense with two quarterbacks: #3 Cooper Chambers and #10 David Capobianco. Both are strong passers, especially David, who primarily throws from the pocket. Kinkaid’s offense excels at distributing the ball among all skill players and has nearly equal yards in both running and receiving. Their best running back is #20 Miles Roeder, who is quick, explosive, and difficult to tackle. As of Week 9, Miles has 670 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. Their top wide receiver is #6 Jordan Manuel, a big-bodied player built like a tight end and just as sturdy. Jordan currently has 555 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.
The Episcopal Knights also boast standout talent. For example, their quarterback, #14 Karson Gordon, ranks among the top five in the city. With his strong arm and impressive ground game, Karson has earned this ranking. Running back #1 Brandon Thomas, a transfer from the Lamar Texans, brings skills that are a cut above the rest, coming from 6A football to TAPPS. Brandon is fast, quick, strong, and durable—traits essential for a great running back. #2 Breylan Thompson plays on both sides of the ball as a wide receiver and cornerback. Breylan is incredibly fast and excels at both positions, but his speed makes him an even more formidable cornerback, rarely allowing any passes to get through.
I’m excited for this cross-town rivalry showdown to take place. I expect it to be a competitive and close game. If I had to pick a winner, I would choose Episcopal. Aside from their loss two weeks ago to the St. John Mavericks, they’ve been on a roll, averaging 30 points a game and shutting down nearly every team they face.
