Longtime Lyford head coach Jaime Infante will be embarking on a new yet familiar adventure next season as he has been hired to be the head coach at Port Isabel.
Infante had spent the last 15 years as the Athletic Director/Head football coach at the Lyford CISD where he reached career milestones such as obtaining his 100th win last August as well as receiving the 2016 Athletic Director of the Year at the RGV City of Palms Football Clinic.
Coach Infante was instrumental in building a competitive Lyford program that reached the playoffs 11 times during his tenure including an 8-4 record last year which ended in a Class 3A DI area-round game to state runner-up Yoakum.
A renown coach in the Rio Grande Valley, Coach Infante will return to Port Isabel where he served as an offensive coordinator/interim Athletic Director prior to his time at Lyford. Infante also had stints at Rio Grande City, Alice and Falfurrias before his arrival in 1988 as a defensive coordinator.
Infante will be replacing recently departed head coach Monty Stumbaugh who helped lead Port Isabel to a share in the District 16-4A title and compiled a career 123-64 record in his 16 years with the program.
