Fort Bend Marshall Defeats Waco University 49-14 in Playoffs

Tom Thumb - DFW's Grocer Since 1948

Fort Bend Marshall asserted dominance early, scoring on their first two plays to cap a 49-yard drive. By the second quarter, the Buffs had established a commanding 35-0 lead. University struggled to gain traction, with quarterback Savoy Nichols completing just nine of 25 attempts for 97 yards, a touchdown, and three interceptions.

The Trojans broke through late in the first half with a 19-yard touchdown catch by London Smith. Nichols connected with Smith four times for 43 yards and the score. Despite a fumble recovery by Leroy Thomas near the end of the half, University couldn’t capitalize with limited time remaining.

Marshall’s defense continued to dominate in the second half, converting two interceptions into touchdowns and adding a field goal to seal their 49-14 victory. Running back Durell Taylor and quarterback Kaeden Johnson led a relentless Buffs offense.

University, now 7-4, reflects on three consecutive playoff appearances as the senior class departs, leaving a legacy of progress for the program.
