As Tom Herman tries to build his first full recruiting class in Austin, he got a commitment from a linebacker that could go a long way in helping him on that path. Fort Worth Eastern Hills linebacker Byron Hobbs announced his commitment to Texas via Twitter on Friday evening.

Hobbs chose Texas over Arkansas, Baylor, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and TCU among other offers. The outside linebacker was a key part of the Highlanders defense in 2016, finishing with 86 tackles, nine sacks and four forced fumbles. His play earned him a first team all-district selection in District 8-5A.
Hobbs becomes the second commit in the Longhorns class of 2018. More importantly for Herman and his staff, he becomes the first in-state commit of the class as Herman looks to get Texas back to the top in the college football landscape.
