Grayson Rigdon, a four-time Texas high school football state champion, has decided to reopen his recruitment following his decommitment from the University of Wyoming. The Columbus 2025 running back, standing at 5’11” and weighing 185 pounds, made the announcement shortly after Wyoming’s running backs coach and director of recruiting, Gordie Haug, left for a position at North Dakota.
The senior star played a pivotal role in Columbus capturing the 3A Division I state title this season, capping off a remarkable year with 2,071 rushing yards and 39 touchdowns. Rigdon’s standout performance in the championship game, where he scored four touchdowns, solidified himself as one of the all-time greats in Texas high school football.
Rigdon’s high school resume is one for the ages. The three-time Six-Man Player of the Year led Strawn to a state title, then led Benjamin to back-to-back state championships before transitioning to 11-man football with Columbus. Over his career, Rigdon set a state record with 21 career touchdowns in title games and earned 4 UIL State Championship MVP honors. His versatility was evident from his freshman year, when he earned both offensive and defensive MVP honors at Strawn.
In a statement, Rigdon expressed gratitude to Wyoming and left the door open for a potential return, saying, “Wyoming is still in the mix.” He also noted interest from other programs, including Cal, Arizona, Vanderbilt, and North Carolina.
For college programs seeking a gritty, versatile RB/slot receiver, Rigdon is a proven winner with the ability to adapt and excel in any system.
Rigdon’s next step remains uncertain, but one thing is clear: wherever he lands, he’s poised to make an immediate impact.
