On Friday night, the Frenship Tigers took a trip crosstown to face the Lubbock Cooper Pirates in a 6A vs 5A matchup. Frenship entered the game with a 3-1 record this season, looking to continue their dominance after an impressive 70-7 victory over Legacy (Wichita Falls). Lubbock Cooper, on the other hand, was riding a three-game winning streak after defeating Tascosa 27-7.
The game started hot for Frenship, quickly building a 21-0 lead after forcing three turnovers, looking as if they might run away with it. However, Cooper’s offense turned around, responding with two touchdowns to cut the lead. Despite the attempts, Cooper struggled against Frenship’s heavy air raid offense.
As the second half began, both offenses came out firing, trading scores, but Frenship maintained control, leading 49-28. In the fourth quarter, the Pirates’ defense finally made key stops, allowing only two additional points for the Tigers. However, it wasn’t enough as Frenship’s defense stepped up after allowing 14 more points in the final quarter. Frenship emerged victorious, winning 51-42.
Next week, Frenship continues non-district play against Midland Christian, currently 1-3 after a 42-24 loss to Cornerstone Christian. Lubbock Cooper begins district play against Plainview, who is 2-2 following a recent win over Dumas, 35-28.
