In a thrilling matchup of two top 5A teams, Frisco Lone Star defeated Argyle 24-17 at Toyota Stadium.

lone star footballLone Star, a 5A DI team, was coming off of a 10-2 season and looking to build off of what was their best season in four years. Argyle, always a contender in 5A DII, was coming off a 9-3 season. 9-3 is an excellent season for most teams, but for the Eagles of Argyle, it was the first time in a decade that they did not reach 1o+ wins.

After trailing 17-10 at halftime, Lone Star’s comeback began in the third quarter with a strip sack that set up a game-tying touchdown. Sophomore quarterback Karece Hoyt connected with Ryder Mix for a 26-yard touchdown, tying the game.

Hoyt sealed the win in the fourth quarter with a 1-yard rushing touchdown, capping off a stellar debut with 293 passing yards and two touchdowns—Lone Star’s defense held firm, intercepting and forcing crucial turnovers.

Argyle started strong, but miscues proved costly. They missed a field goal and were intercepted in the red zone. Despite junior running back Watson Bell’s 152-yard effort, Argyle couldn’t regain control, falling short on their final drives.

Lone Star travels next week to face Garland. Garland went 7-4 last year and is coming off of a 24-7 week one win over North Dallas. Argyle will look to get their first win of the season next week when they face Midlothian Heritage. The Midlothian Heritage Jaguars dropped their first game of the season, 3-38, to Stephenville. Argyle and Lone Star should be contenders to make deep playoff runs this season.
